Langtang Region
Trekking in Himalaya

Helambu Treks

Maximum altitude: 3490 meters
Duration: 10 days

Helambu: Access to Helambu is easy from Kathmandu; you can tailor a circuit to your schedule. The peaks of Langtang on this route are great. Helambu was once considered a hidden, sacred domain, and its misty ridges and fertile valleys are still comparatively isolated. Sundarijal is the most common starting point to trek. The route takes you through the Shivapuri Watershed. You can make a loop around two main ridges and the valley of the Melamchi Khola, and stay as high as possible and taking in the villages of Melamchi Gaun, Tarke Ghyang and Shermathang. The walk is rewarding passing picturesque monasteries and contouring through forests of oak, rhododendron and daphne, whose bark is used to make paper.
