Doplo & Rara Region
Trekking in Himalaya
Jumla & Rara

Maximum Elevation : 3500 meters
Duration of Trek : 13 days

In the western part of the country, this area is protected by the Rara National Park. At 106 sq km, it is the smallest national park of Nepal.
Jumla, is on the banks of the Tila Khola at 2370m, is one of the highest rice growing areas in the world. Rara lake(2980m) is the focal point of the Rara National Park and is good destination for a trek. The trail is very much "off the beaten path" and affords glimpses of culture and scenery very different from those in the rest of the country. The centerpiece of the park is the biggest lake of Nepal. These lie in the remote Karnali region, northwest of Kathmandu. The region is made-up of long ridges covered with temperate forests and alpine pastures enclosing high valleys. Summer rainfall is low, but winter snow can be heavy and persistent. Since the region is fairly high and free from monsoon thunderstorms, the summer season is ideal for trekking. Winters are cold, but the autumn season trekking is rewarded with a profusion of alpine flowers.

Dolpa

Trekkers rarely visit the district of Dolpo and yet it offers a wonderful chance to experience a landscape and culture very different from other parts of the country. Dolpo is rugged and remote and divided into two areas (upper and lower). Dolpo is home to many rare and endangered animal species including the Snow leopard, musk deer and blue sheep. The Dolpo region has only been opened to foreigners since 1989. The whole of Dolpo is situated in the Shey Phoksundo National Park, 400 km west of Kathmandu.
