The Wildlife Reserve of Koshi Tappu provides one an opportunity to see some of the world’s most enchanting birds. The Reserve is situated in the eastern part of Nepal and is one that has a great amount of migratory birds flocking in. Founded in 1976, the reseve is well protected from poachers a over 400 different species of birds have been recorded here. You can see the Black Ibis, Honey Kites, Ospreys, Black Headed Orioles, Peregrine Falcon, Partridges, and Storks. Rare species of birds like the Bengal florican and Sarus Crane also find a safe refuge in this reserve
Day 01: Kathmandu
In Kathmandu, you will be received at the airport and transferred to your hotel. After a briefing by your tour leader and an overview about the whole program he could welcome you to a meal in one of the better restaurants in the city. (D)
Day 02: Koshi Tappu
Today we will head for the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve which lies to the eastern part of Nepal. The drive will take us about 6 hours on the east west highway. The Koshi Tappu Reserve is home to the last surviving population of wild buffalo or Arna. There are also many other mammals and birds who find a refuge in this vast reserve. This Reserve was founded in 1976 initially to protect grasslands near the Sapta Kosi River. The reserve is home to various birds and animals. The endangered Gharial crocodile and Gangetic Dolphin have been flourishing in the Koshi River. Rare birds like the Bengal florican and Sarus Crane and more than 400 species of birds have been recorded here including migratory species from Siberia and Tibet.
Our birdwatching tours here will give us great views of birds including Black Ibis, Honey Kites, Ospreys, Black Headed Orioles, Peregrine Falcon, Partridges, and Storks. Halt overnight at a lodge. (BLD)
Day 03: Koshi Tappu/Departure
In the morning, we will do some more birdwatching and then move towards our onward destination.
